XPlane: Aerosoft Airport Dublin V2.0 XP Review

I spend the last 3 months in Dublin, so I thought it might be good idea to get some Dublin scenery. And I had a lot of luck Aerosoft just released their new Dublin V.2 scenery and two weeks later it was on sale, so I got it for around 20 Dollars. So is it worth the money?

What is included ?

It features the airport with Terminal 1 and the new brilliant Terminal 2, which is by the way awesome.

Furthermore it features realistic Airport surroundings, which include streets, bus stops and a lot of real buildings for example the Aer Lingus offices and the Radisson Hotel. Also there are custom airplanes and custom cars which are located at the parking lots at the airport.

The scenery comes with an installer so it is really easy to install and you can quickly start flying into or out of Dublin.

How does it look ?

It looks amazing! The textures are really sharp and look great. However the glass textures at Terminal 2 look a bit dated due to a poor level of reflection and transparency.

However the runways and taxiways are modelled very nicely and they offer very high resolution and it looks way better then the original runway textures. Also the airport surroundings are designed amazingly. The textures are for the most parts photo real, which should make any VFR pilot really happy. When I approached the airport for the first time I was stunned by the level of detail offered by Aerosoft and if this was not enough the best part was the taxi to the gate for the first time, due to added aircraft modells (for example the Delta 757), which are standing at Terminal 2 you really feel impressed by the level of detail.

How is the performance ?

Often times a bad programmed scenery can ruin the whole experience. So if it is programmed badly it doesn´t matter how well it looks. But how does the Aerosoft scenery perform ? Simply said, pretty good! I tried it on two completely different setups.

Setup 1.

Windows 10 – 16GB Ram – i7 2600 Core – GTX1050Ti

The sim with the scenery runs very smooth with 30fps on high settings, with heavy weather effects and rain the fps can drop to 23-25 fps. I have only experienced 1 problem on this setup and I am not sure if it was the fault of the scenery or the sim. It happened two times that I had massive fps drops while approaching the airport. However it was only for a brief time period of 20 seconds.

Setup 2.

macOS Sierra – MacBook Pro 15´´- 16GB Ram – Intel Core i7 – Intel Iris Pro

If we are honest, a MacBook is not the right device for games or sims. However the MacBook can run the Aerosoft Dublin V2 scenery very well on low settings. However the MacBook struggles with rain effects or cloud effects but this is not the fault of the scenery. I have never had any issues with the scenery on this setup.

Conclusion:

The Dublin V2 Scenery by Aerosoft is a beautiful model of the real Dublin airport. The work they spend working on it paid out. It is detailed and it makes my happy. I recommend this scenery to everybody, who flys on XPlane throughout Europe.
