77W cockpit from London left unattended because "pilots are fighting"
Indian Jet Airways has fired two pilots who were involved in a midair cockpit fight on New Year's Day, when the pilot slapped his co-pilot during a London to Mumbai flight and left the whole cockpit unattended.
It is reported that the male Captain(Pilot Monitoring (PM))and the female First Officer (Pilot Flying (PF)) argued in the cockpit due to personal issues shortly before descending into Mumbai.
The male captain than slapped the FO, and the FO left the cockpit while refusing to return. She stayed in the gallery sobbing where flight attendants tried to comfort and persuade her to return to the cockpit but failed.
The captain then used buzzers (calling from the intercom in the cockpit) to demand the FO back. Failing to bring her back, the captain exits the cockpit himself to drag his FO back, leaving no one in the cockpit during descend.
Both pilots managed to return to their duties and landed the 77W.
The Boeing 777-300ER was carrying 324 passengers and 14 crew members at that time. Jet Airways initially claimed that this fight is due to the misconception between flight crew. However they have announced to fire the two pilots permanently.
The two pilots are all senior pilots and we have no idea why will they do such a dangerous act. But there is one thing for sure - we will never be seeing them sitting in the cockpit anymore.
