Ethiopian upgrades Cape Town route to Boeing 777-300ER

Ethiopian Airlines has changed equipment for their flight from Addis Ababa to Cape Town.

This flight was flown by Boeing 737-800 equipment as the first aircraft to serve the route. It was then upgraded to 787-8 equipment. However, there were instances in which the 767-300ER actually flew the route. Over the last year, the scheduled aircraft has been the 777-200LR.

Ethiopian is notorious for last minute equipment changes and a multitude of widebodied aircraft have served the route. The A350-900 and the 777-300ER have flown this route. When Ethiopian took delivery of their 787-9 aircraft, they deployed them on this route. Ethiopian has now filed for the 777-300ER for this sector starting June 2018.

By sending in their largest aircraft, we can conclude that Ethiopian has a decent load factors and demand on this route. The 777-300ER has 28 Business and 365 Economy Class Seats. The interesting thing about Ethiopian, is that they are one of the few airlines globally, that fly the 777 with a 9 a breast Economy Class Cabin.
