Iran Aseman Airlines crashes into a mountain
A passenger plane carrying dozens of people on a domestic flight from Tehran to Yasuj has crashed into a mountain. The aircraft attempted to make an emergency landing on a pasture and vanished from radar 50 minutes after departure. The crash site lies in the mountainous southwestern region of iran, 480 Kilometres south of Tehran.
The plane is a ATR 72-500 and is about 20 years old.
There were about 60 passengers and crew on board the flight to Yasuj. The exact number of passengers has not been confirmed.
Rescue teams including helicopters have been deployed to search the crash site near Padena Mountain, search and rescue operation is underway. There is no immediate details over the casualties. Rescue effort was hampered by the remote location of the crash site, mountainous terrain and dense fog.
Aseman Airlines is the third largest carrier in Iran and is based in the capital Tehran
Although the plane’s wreckage has not been found yet, Aseman Airline’s Public Relations chief declared that all people on board have lost their lives.
