Lufthansa announces arrival of its A350-900 to Mexico City


The German airline Lufthansa announced that by the end of October the Munich-Mexico City route will start operating with its A350-900 aircraft, turning the country into the first in Latin America in which Lufthansa will operate this aircraft.

The A350 has a capacity of 293 seats, of which 224 are in economy, 21 in premium economy, and 48 in business class. Dirk Van Nieuwkerk indicated that in their flights, 40 percent of the passengers are Mexican, which not only travel to Germany, but to destinations such as Italy, Spain, England and Asia, among others. Meanwhile, Germans and Europeans fly to Mexico both for business and tourism, and not only do it to Cancun, where the company went from having no flights in 2015 to seven in 2017. Regarding a possible alliance with Interjet, a company that expressed interest in carrying it out, explained that new options are always evaluated; however, 90 percent of its traffic is generated in Mexico City and some others connect through the Interline Agreement they have with Aeroméxico for cities such as Guadalajara and Monterrey. "We always evaluate our needs with other airlines, but now we have nothing to communicate in this regard," he concluded.

"We see a very prosperous future for Mexico and for the Lufthansa Group as a whole," he said, noting that flights LH 521 to Munich and LH 520 to Mexico City operate five days a week with an Airbus A340-600 aircraft, which will be gradually replaced by the new two-engine A350.In a press conference, the director said that with this aircraft significantly improve the travel experience of its local passengers, with additional features and superior comfort.In addition to its five weekly flights To Munich, Lufthansa operates a daily flight between Mexico City to Frankfurt, its main center of international operations, servicing the route with a Boeing 747-8, known as the "Queen of the Skies.
