Primera Air Takes Delivery of its First A321Neo

Primera Air, a low-cost/leisure airline mainly based in Northern Europe has recently taken delivery of its first Airbus A321Neo. The airline is expanding rapidly and the arrival of the A321Neo will, further strengthen the airlines' competitiveness. The Icelandic carrier is set to open 3 new secondary bases in the coming months which are not in Nordic countrys. The A321s are planned to operate new transatlantic flights to Newark, Boston and Toronto from some new bases that are yet to be opened.

Primera Air took delivery of its first A321Neo that is set to operate transatlantic services between Europe and North America. The A321 is leased from GECAS and was assembled in Hamburg. The jet is the first of 3 that it has on order from GECAS, however a further 5 are said to be leased from other lessors including AerCap from which it leased two A321LRs last year. When asked about the deal for the A321LRs, the Primera Air President, Andri M. Ingolfsson said, "Primera Air is very happy to sign the first Airbus A321LR aircraft that will come into operation, and very pleased to extend the long and solid cooperation we have had with AerCap. The new Airbus 321LR will be a game changer in the industry and will enable Primera Air to be the first airline to open up new long haul routes, previously only viable with wide body aircraft, but with superior economics."

The carriers' first Airbus A321Neo which is configured with 198 seats features a two class layout. The aircraft, configured with 182 seats in economy and 16 in premium uses CFM International Leap-1A engines. The aircraft is set to be deployed on flights from new bases such as London Stanstead, Paris Charles-du Gaulle and Birmingham to North American cities including Boston, Newark and Toronto-Pearson.

Primera Air has subsidiaries in Latvia and Denmark named Primera Air Nordic and Primera Air Scandinavia respectively. Please note, Primera Air Scandinavia has taken delivery of the A321Neos, and not Primera Air Denmark.
