SIA Door Ripped off at Los Angeles International Airport

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER found itself door less at Los Angeles International airport (LAX) on April 16, 2018. The flight which was supposed to depart LAX for Seoul as Singapore Airlines flight SQ 7. Singapore Airlines is known for its premium services and highly competitive products, similar to that of the well-known, award winning airline, Emirates.

The Boeing 777-300ER is said to be registered as 9V-SWV, an aircraft that was delivered new to the airline in 2013. The airline said in a statement, "There were no passengers on board at the time and there were no injuries. A damage assessment is being carried out, and the aircraft will return to Singapore after repairs are completed." The carrier also said that the aircraft "was being prepared for towing to its departure gate from a remote bay." The incident occurred on the 16 April 2018 at around 17:50pm local time. The aircrafts' left hand door at the front of the plane was the door affected.

According to airfleets.net, the aircraft was delivered on the 26 of September, 2013, however the aircrafts' first flight was 1 month earlier. It is uncertain what configuration the aircraft has, however we know that it will either be fitted with 278 seats in a 3 class layout, or with 264 seats in a 4 class layout. Singapore Airlines' first Boeing 777-300ER entered commercial service on the 5 of December 2006.

The airline placed its first orders for the aircraft in 2004, when options for some 777 family aircraft had been converted into firm orders for 19 Boeing 777-300ERs. On 6 May 2005, the airline became the largest operator of the Boeing 777 family, when it took delivery of its 58th aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER. Sadly, this achievement is in the past, with Emirates now holding the leading spot, with 150 aircraft in service, 10 in storage and a further 162 on order.
