Heathrow Airport Sees Record Passenger Numbers for the First Quarter

The largest and best known London Airport, London Heathrow, has recently posted record passenger numbers for the first quarter of 2018. 17.7 million passengers passed through Heathrow during the first quarter this year, a record number. Flights to South America saw one of the biggest increases in passenger numbers rising 6.9%.

Europe remains one of the top choices for passengers in terms of destinations, with 7.2 million passengers flying out of Heathrow to Europe during the first quarter.

“We’re delighted that passengers are choosing Heathrow in record numbers – it’s is a strong signal that we’re delivering value for money. We’re within touching distance of Parliament voting on expanding Heathrow and now more than ever we’re committed to developing and delivering a hub airport that Britain can be proud of for generations to come”, said John Holland-Kaye, Chief Executive Officer of Heathrow Airport.

Heathrow Airport needs more capacity, and many airlines agree. Heathrow has been campaigning a lot in order to get permission to build a third runway at the already booming hub. Good friday this year was Heathrow's busiest day of the year, with over 136,000 people travelling through the airport.
