Strike Called off at LOT Polish Airlines

A previously planned strike which was meant to affect all LOT Polish Airlines flights has been officially cancelled. Today's flights were expected to be affected as many pilots, cabin crew members and staff had planned to go on strike. Today, an airline spokesman said that the strike would be cancelled and that operations will continue as normal. This morning, a 3 hour protest was held just outside the carrier's Warsaw headquarters and consisted of mainly pilots and crew. It was assumed that over 100 people protested.

Trade unions had originally planned a strike, however they called it off yesterday (Monday 31 April). Trade unions are opposing a move which the airline did in 2013, whereby pay was calculated upon how much time is spent in the air, meaning that staff would not be paid if they were sick or on holiday. That move had come after the airline had declared that it was on the brink of bankruptcy meaning that it had to have a turnaround plan in order to stay in operations.

LOT Polish Airlines currently has a very modern fleet, ranging from the Boeing 787 to the Embraer E-195. It is one of the world's oldest airline. Currently, 60 aircraft are in service, while 17 are on order, including the Boeing 787-9 and the Boeing 737 MAX 8. LOT Polish Airlines has previously operated over 25 different types of aircraft, and shows how the airline has evolved to become one of the leading airlines and one of the most profitable as it currently has only 10 different types of modern aircraft helping it to reduce training costs and increase profitability.
